BERKELEY, Calif. - A 16-year-old boy was arrested after recruiting others to participate in a mass school capturing that could have included a bombing at Berkeley Excessive School, police say. 

The teen was arrested Monday, when he turned himself in to police, Berkeley Police Division stated in a press launch. Monday was Memorial Day and there was no school that day. 

The boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing damaging machine materials and threatening to commit a criminal offense which can lead to death or great bodily damage.

Police stated they obtained a tip on Saturday that the boy was recruiting others in plans of a capturing that included explosives. Following the tip, police obtained and executed a search warrant for a residence. 

Police did not say if the teen was a student at Berkeley High Faculty.

Upon executing the search warrant, police said they discovered elements to explosives and assault rifles, a number of knives, and electronic gadgets that could possibly be used to create extra weapons. 

At that time, a warrant was obtained for the teen's arrest.

"School safety remains a high precedence for the department," police mentioned in an announcement. 

Details on whom the teen was making an attempt to recruit weren't disclosed. Police stated this case remains beneath investigation. 

Berkeley Unified Supt. Brent Stephens informed the school's neighborhood that the district was in close contact with police throughout this investigation. 

After police confiscated the teen's weapon elements, the district relied on police expertise to evaluate any potential ongoing threat to its colleges. The district communicated with police on the scholar's whereabouts. 

"As added precautions throughout this period, we alerted our administrative and safety staff about this investigation and, as is our commonplace apply, maintained close contact with our BPD College Useful resource Officer on the Berkeley High College campus," Stephens wrote. "Throughout the investigation interval, we have been assured that this particular person did not pose an instantaneous menace to the Berkeley Excessive School community."

The district is conducting their very own investigation on this matter. 

The district might pursue disciplinary motion against the student. 

In addition, a city hall assembly titled: 'The right way to Talk to Children About School Violence' offered by Alameda County Office of Training is scheduled for Wednesday at 6 p.m.
