BERKELEY, Calif. - A 16-year-old boy was arrested after recruiting others to take part in a mass faculty taking pictures that could have included a bombing at Berkeley Excessive School, police say. 

The teen was arrested Monday, when he turned himself in to police, Berkeley Police Department stated in a press release. Monday was Memorial Day and there was no college that day. 

The boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing damaging device supplies and threatening to commit a crime which will lead to loss of life or great bodily harm.

Police said they obtained a tip on Saturday that the boy was recruiting others in plans of a shooting that included explosives. Following the tip, police obtained and executed a search warrant for a residence. 

Police did not say if the teenager was a student at Berkeley High Faculty.

Upon executing the search warrant, police stated they found components to explosives and assault rifles, several knives, and digital gadgets that could possibly be used to create further weapons. 

At that time, a warrant was obtained for the teen's arrest.

"Faculty safety remains a excessive precedence for the division," police mentioned in an announcement. 

Particulars on whom the teenager was making an attempt to recruit weren't disclosed. Police mentioned this case remains beneath investigation. 

Berkeley Unified Supt. Brent Stephens advised the varsity's neighborhood that the district was in shut contact with police throughout this investigation. 

After police confiscated the teen's weapon elements, the district relied on police experience to evaluate any potential ongoing threat to its faculties. The district communicated with police on the student's whereabouts. 

"As added precautions during this era, we alerted our administrative and safety workers about this investigation and, as is our customary follow, maintained shut contact with our BPD Faculty Resource Officer on the Berkeley Excessive Faculty campus," Stephens wrote. "All through the investigation period, we have been assured that this particular person didn't pose a direct threat to the Berkeley Excessive College community."

The district is conducting their very own investigation on this matter. 

The district could pursue disciplinary motion towards the scholar. 

In addition, a city hall meeting titled: 'How you can Discuss to Youngsters About College Violence' offered by Alameda County Workplace of Training is scheduled for Wednesday at 6 p.m.
