BERKELEY, Calif. - A 16-year-old boy was arrested after recruiting others to take part in a mass faculty shooting that might have included a bombing at Berkeley High School, police say. 

The teenager was arrested Monday, when he turned himself in to police, Berkeley Police Department stated in a press release. Monday was Memorial Day and there was no school that day. 

The boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing harmful gadget supplies and threatening to commit against the law which will lead to death or great bodily damage.

Police stated they obtained a tip on Saturday that the boy was recruiting others in plans of a shooting that included explosives. Following the tip, police obtained and executed a search warrant for a residence. 

Police did not say if the teen was a student at Berkeley High Faculty.

Upon executing the search warrant, police stated they discovered components to explosives and assault rifles, a number of knives, and digital objects that might be used to create further weapons. 

At that time, a warrant was obtained for the teenager's arrest.

"Faculty safety remains a excessive precedence for the department," police stated in an announcement. 

Details on whom the teenager was trying to recruit were not disclosed. Police stated this case stays under investigation. 

Berkeley Unified Supt. Brent Stephens informed the varsity's community that the district was in close contact with police throughout this investigation. 

After police confiscated the teen's weapon components, the district relied on police expertise to evaluate any potential ongoing risk to its faculties. The district communicated with police on the coed's whereabouts. 

"As added precautions during this period, we alerted our administrative and security workers about this investigation and, as is our commonplace observe, maintained close contact with our BPD School Useful resource Officer on the Berkeley High College campus," Stephens wrote. "All through the investigation interval, we were assured that this particular person did not pose a right away menace to the Berkeley High Faculty neighborhood."

The district is conducting their own investigation on this matter. 

The district might pursue disciplinary action against the scholar.
