16-year-old arrested; deliberate shooting with explosives at Berkeley Excessive, police say

BERKELEY, Calif. - A 16-year-old boy was arrested after recruiting others to take part in a mass faculty taking pictures that could have included a bombing at Berkeley Excessive College, police say. 

The teenager was arrested Monday, when he turned himself in to police, Berkeley Police Division mentioned in a press release. Monday was Memorial Day and there was no school that day. 

The boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing destructive machine materials and threatening to commit against the law which is able to lead to death or great bodily harm.

Police stated they acquired a tip on Saturday that the boy was recruiting others in plans of a taking pictures that included explosives. Following the tip, police obtained and executed a search warrant for a residence. 

Police didn't say if the teen was a student at Berkeley High Faculty.

Upon executing the search warrant, police stated they found elements to explosives and assault rifles, a number of knives, and digital items that may very well be used to create extra weapons. 

At that time, a warrant was obtained for the teenager's arrest.

"College safety remains a high priority for the division," police stated in a press release. 

Details on whom the teen was making an attempt to recruit weren't disclosed. Police mentioned this case remains below investigation. 

Berkeley Unified Supt. Brent Stephens instructed the school's group that the district was in shut contact with police during this investigation. 

After police confiscated the teen's weapon parts, the district relied on police expertise to assess any potential ongoing risk to its schools. The district communicated with police on the scholar's whereabouts. 

"As added precautions during this era, we alerted our administrative and safety employees about this investigation and, as is our commonplace practice, maintained shut contact with our BPD College Useful resource Officer on the Berkeley High College campus," Stephens wrote. "All through the investigation period, we have been assured that this individual didn't pose an instantaneous menace to the Berkeley Excessive Faculty group."

The district is conducting their very own investigation on this matter. 

The district could pursue disciplinary motion towards the coed.
