BERKELEY, Calif. - A 16-year-old boy was arrested after recruiting others to take part in a mass college shooting that could have included a bombing at Berkeley Excessive School, police say. 

The teen was arrested Monday, when he turned himself in to police, Berkeley Police Division said in a press launch. Monday was Memorial Day and there was no college that day. 

The boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing harmful system materials and threatening to commit against the law which is able to result in demise or nice bodily damage.

Police said they obtained a tip on Saturday that the boy was recruiting others in plans of a shooting that included explosives. Following the tip, police obtained and executed a search warrant for a residence. 

Police did not say if the teenager was a scholar at Berkeley Excessive College.

Upon executing the search warrant, police mentioned they discovered components to explosives and assault rifles, a number of knives, and digital gadgets that could possibly be used to create extra weapons. 

At that point, a warrant was obtained for the teenager's arrest.

"School security remains a high precedence for the division," police mentioned in a statement. 

Particulars on whom the teen was trying to recruit were not disclosed. Police mentioned this case remains below investigation. 

Berkeley Unified Supt. Brent Stephens advised the college's community that the district was in shut contact with police throughout this investigation. 

After police confiscated the teenager's weapon elements, the district relied on police expertise to assess any potential ongoing danger to its faculties. The district communicated with police on the coed's whereabouts.
