Throughout the Uvalde shooting, an off-duty federal agent’s spouse texted him for assist. “I requested my barber if he had a gun,” he said.

Jacob Albarado was in his barber's chair when each men obtained text messages in regards to the taking pictures unfolding at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, last week. "There's an energetic shooter. Assist. Love you," Albarado's spouse Trisha mentioned in three messages at 11:41 a.m.

She's a fourth grade teacher at the college, and their daughter is a pupil there.

"I asked my barber if he had a gun," Albarado, a U.S. Customs and Border Safety agent, instructed CBS Information on Wednesday. He had attended an awards ceremony at the school earlier that morning and was off obligation, along with his weapon at residence.

The barber did have a gun. Albarado took it, a shotgun, and so they rushed to the chaotic scene. Police officers had been already there, and Albarado started helping.

"Kids are popping out the windows," he mentioned.

With people fleeing to a funeral house throughout the street, Albarado mentioned he wished to get inside the school as fast as he may.

"I used to be appearing as a husband and a father," he said.

His wife let him know she made it to the funeral house, but she told him their daughter was locked in a college restroom.

"I did not know what restroom," Albarado said.

He eventually learned his daughter was in a restroom positioned inside her classroom. Albarado met up with two officers close to the classroom.

"We have to get the kids out of right here," Albarado said he advised the officers. "… The shooter's over there. We have to get the kids out. This is our time."

The officers started opening classroom doorways, and Albarado mentioned he guided folks to safety.

"First classroom, second classroom, third classroom, saw my daughter," Albarado said. "Relief. Huge aid."

He hugged and kissed her, and shortly she was heading to the school parking lot.

Whereas Border Patrol brokers have been on the team that breached the classroom where the gunman was holed up, Albarado wasn't in that group.

"I didn't have my gear, and so it would not have been a good move for me to get into the building," he mentioned. "I didn't have my vest. A shotgun's not a adequate defense."

During a press convention last week, the head of the Texas Division of Public Safety stated the college district's police chief did not initially send officers into the classroom where the gunman was located because he thought it was now not an active-shooter state of affairs.
