Florida fifth grader arrested, charged with threatening a mass capturing, police say

A fifth grade student in Florida was arrested over the weekend and charged with sending a text message threatening to hold out a mass shooting, authorities said.

In an announcement Saturday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Workplace stated it had realized earlier that day of a "threatening textual content message" despatched by a student at an elementary college.

It mentioned its native faculty risk enforcement team was immediately notified and started investigating. The 10-year-old boy was interviewed and charged later with "making a written threat to conduct a mass shooting," the sheriff's office mentioned.

In video shared by authorities, the boy will be seen being led into a police car.

“This pupil’s behavior is sickening, particularly after the recent tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in an announcement, noting that the threat got here simply days after the deadly college capturing at Robb Elementary School left 19 college students and two lecturers dead.

“Right now is not the time to behave like slightly delinquent. It’s not funny,” he said. “This youngster made a pretend threat, and now he’s experiencing actual penalties.”

Marceno stated his crew “didn’t hesitate one second...NOT ONE SECOND,” to research the incident.

The remark came as authorities in Uvalde face mounting criticism over their response to the May 24 faculty taking pictures after it got here to light that they waited roughly an hour for backup instead of immediately moving in on the gunman.
