A fifth grade pupil in Florida was arrested over the weekend and charged with sending a textual content message threatening to carry out a mass shooting, authorities mentioned.

In a press release Saturday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office mentioned it had learned earlier that day of a "threatening textual content message" despatched by a student at an elementary college.

It said its local school risk enforcement group was instantly notified and began investigating. The 10-year-old boy was interviewed and charged later with "making a written risk to conduct a mass capturing," the sheriff's office mentioned.

In video shared by authorities, the boy can be seen being led into a police car.

“This scholar’s conduct is sickening, especially after the current tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno mentioned in a statement, noting that the threat came just days after the deadly faculty capturing at Robb Elementary School left 19 college students and two academics useless.

“Right now is not the time to act like a bit of delinquent. It’s not humorous,” he stated. “This little one made a fake threat, and now he’s experiencing real consequences.”

Marceno stated his team “didn’t hesitate one second...NOT ONE SECOND,” to analyze the incident.

The comment got here as authorities in Uvalde face mounting criticism over their response to the Could 24 faculty taking pictures after it got here to mild that they waited roughly an hour for backup instead of immediately transferring in on the gunman.
