A Florida decide on Wednesday struck down a portion of a redistricting map drawn by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) and his employees.
Driving the news: "I'm finding that the enacted map is unconstitutional underneath the Fair District modification ... as a result of it diminishes African Individuals' skill to elect the representatives of their alternative," Leon County Circuit Judge Layne Smith mentioned.
Smith is expected to challenge a proper order on Thursday or Friday to ensure that the maps are not in impact during November's election, AP reports.Why it matters: DeSantis' plan dismantles the North Florida seat now held by a Black Democrat.
