Gary Martin, a senior at Archbishop Wooden Excessive Faculty Warminster, Penn., broke a prestigious track and field file at the Pennsylvania Catholic League Championship on Monday by running a mile in underneath 4 minutes. Martin's run broke a file that had stood for nearly 60 years.

Martin ran a mile in 3:57:98 with out the help of a pacer, breaking a file that had been set by Jim Ryun in 1965.

Ryun grew to become the primary high schooler to run a mile in below four minutes in 1964, then broke his personal record five instances before graduating. Ryun's time of record was 3:58.3, a mark which Martin broke by less than a second.

Martin is now the 14th American high school athlete to interrupt four minutes, and his time now ranks third all-time in outside runs. It must be famous, though, that Ryun was the only athlete to do so in high school-only competitors, with out the use of a pacer.

Martin's run was a major milestone he prepares to attend the College of Virginia upon graduation. Talking about his long-term goals, Martin hopes to become an Olympic athlete.

"I might wish to assume that it isn't loopy for me to say that it is a dream now," Martin informed CBS Information. "Clearly, I'm still a long methods away and have some work to do, however I am confident in my capacity. I have the dream, now I simply should put the work in and chase it."
