Parent with concealed weapon unintentionally shoots self while at Arlington ISD school, police say

Arlington police stated Duff Elementary College was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mum or dad with a hid weapon had his gun accidentally go off, hitting the father or mother within the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police stated Duff Elementary College was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mum or dad with a hid weapon had his gun by chance go off, hitting the mum or dad within the leg.

The college had early release and students had been released on the planned time of 12:10 p.m.

In keeping with police, the parent, recognized as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and by chance shot himself. His damage was not severe.

The school district said White was contained in the building, close to the lobby area, and not within the hallway close to college students when the gun went off.

Police and faculty officials stated there was no threat made and the guardian didn't have "malicious intent."

No college students or workers were injured. The mum or dad was taken to an area hospital after being shot within the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones stated after White was launched from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of a weapon in prohibited places and discharge of a firearm in sure municipalities.

In the two days because the Uvalde mass college capturing, there have been 5 instances in North Texas associated to guns brought to colleges or threats made.

Arlington parents stated their minds immediately considered the worst once they had been notified.

No parent ever needs there to be a motive for them to get a text message saying their child's faculty is on lockdown.

However since this week's deadly taking pictures at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can not assist but think the worst after they do.

"Once I acquired the text message, I was like, ‘Oh my God, something is going to occur.’ I used to be shocked," parent Karima Rasheed mentioned.

While most instances, lockdowns are only drills college students have to participate in, Rasheed's son, Rami, mentioned that figuring out what occurred earlier this week made this lockdown completely different. 

"I began seeing my classmates beginning to cry and our teacher got a notification on their telephone saying someone was in the constructing," he said.

Weapons are not allowed on faculty property, and parents FOX 4 spoke with said even when it was a mistake, the timing is just horrible.

"What are we going to do? They have to go to high school, and clearly, statistically, it's unlikely to happen, however you by no means want to be the one statistic. What if it is your kids?" Matthew Mitchell mentioned.

Mitchell lives throughout the road from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to another Arlington college. 

"I’m terrified, absolutely terrified. I’ve obtained twin six-year-olds that go to a distinct Arlington college and each time I hear there's a lockdown or a school capturing, my heart jumps into my throat," he said.

Rasheed stated Thursday was the graduation day for 6th grade students at Duff Elementary.

Whereas driving her son to school within the morning, she had a chat with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever happened at his school.

"If one thing happened, you’ve received to run anywhere that’s protected and conceal," she told her little one.

Whereas some say the incident in Uvalde is too recent to speak politics, Mitchell said one thing must be completed now. 

"They need to discuss it, they need to marketing campaign on it, they need to fundraiser on it, however they don’t need to actually cross any laws and do anything," he added.
