Arlington police said Duff Elementary School was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a father or mother with a hid weapon had his gun accidentally go off, hitting the mother or father in the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary Faculty was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a dad or mum with a concealed weapon had his gun accidentally go off, hitting the parent within the leg.

The varsity had early launch and students have been launched on the planned time of 12:10 p.m.

In accordance with police, the guardian, recognized as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and unintentionally shot himself. His damage was not serious.

The college district stated White was contained in the constructing, close to the lobby space, and not within the hallway close to students when the gun went off.

Police and college officers said there was no menace made and the dad or mum didn't have "malicious intent."

No college students or staff have been injured. The guardian was taken to an space hospital after being shot within the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones stated after White was launched from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of a weapon in prohibited places and discharge of a firearm in sure municipalities.

Arlington parents mentioned their minds instantly considered the worst once they had been notified.

But since this week's deadly shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can not help however think the worst when they do.

"When I obtained the text message, I used to be like, ‘Oh my God, something is going to happen.’ I was shocked," mum or dad Karima Rasheed stated.

"I’m terrified, completely terrified. I’ve obtained twin six-year-olds that go to a unique Arlington faculty and each time I hear there is a lockdown or a school taking pictures, my heart jumps into my throat," he mentioned.

Rasheed stated Thursday was the graduation day for sixth grade college students at Duff Elementary.

Whereas driving her son to school within the morning, she had a chat with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever occurred at his faculty.

"If something occurred, you’ve bought to run anywhere that’s secure and hide," she informed her little one.

Whereas some say the incident in Uvalde is too contemporary to speak politics, Mitchell stated something needs to be achieved now. 

"They want to speak about it, they need to campaign on it, they wish to fundraiser on it, however they don’t want to really pass any laws and do anything," he added.
