Parent with hid weapon accidentally shoots self while at Arlington ISD college, police say

Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary College was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mum or dad with a hid weapon had his gun by chance go off, hitting the mother or father within the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police stated Duff Elementary Faculty was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a father or mother with a concealed weapon had his gun by chance go off, hitting the father or mother in the leg.

The school had early launch and college students had been launched at the deliberate time of 12:10 p.m.

In keeping with police, the mum or dad, identified as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and by chance shot himself. His harm was not serious.

The college district mentioned White was contained in the building, close to the lobby area, and not within the hallway near students when the gun went off.

Police and faculty officers stated there was no menace made and the dad or mum did not have "malicious intent."

No students or workers had been injured. The dad or mum was taken to an area hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones stated after White was launched from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited locations and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities.

Within the two days because the Uvalde mass faculty taking pictures, there have been 5 instances in North Texas associated to weapons introduced to schools or threats made.

Arlington dad and mom mentioned their minds immediately thought of the worst when they had been notified.

No mum or dad ever needs there to be a reason for them to get a text message saying their child's college is on lockdown.

However since this week's lethal capturing at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can't help but think the worst when they do.

"Once I acquired the text message, I used to be like, ‘Oh my God, one thing is going to occur.’ I was shocked," mother or father Karima Rasheed stated.

Whereas most times, lockdowns are solely drills college students have to participate in, Rasheed's son, Rami, said that realizing what happened earlier this week made this lockdown totally different. 

"I began seeing my classmates starting to cry and our trainer got a notification on their phone saying somebody was within the constructing," he stated.

Weapons should not allowed on school property, and oldsters FOX 4 spoke with mentioned even if it was a mistake, the timing is just horrible.

"What are we going to do? They need to go to high school, and clearly, statistically, it's unlikely to happen, however you by no means want to be the one statistic. What if it's your children?" Matthew Mitchell said.

Mitchell lives throughout the street from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to another Arlington college. 

"I’m terrified, absolutely terrified. I’ve received twin six-year-olds that go to a special Arlington faculty and each time I hear there's a lockdown or a school shooting, my heart jumps into my throat," he said.

Rasheed said Thursday was the commencement day for sixth grade college students at Duff Elementary.

While driving her son to school within the morning, she had a chat with him about Uvalde and what to do if one thing ever happened at his college.

"If one thing occurred, you’ve got to run anywhere that’s secure and hide," she informed her little one.

Whereas some say the incident in Uvalde is too fresh to speak politics, Mitchell mentioned one thing needs to be performed now. 

"They need to talk about it, they need to campaign on it, they want to fundraiser on it, but they don’t wish to truly cross any legal guidelines and do anything," he added.
