Taliban leader orders women to wear all-covering burqa in public: Decree

Afghanistan’s supreme chief and Taliban chief on Saturday ordered the nation’s girls to wear the all-covering burqa in public - one of the harshest controls imposed on ladies’s lives because the Taliban seized power.

“They should put on a chadori (head-to-toe burqa) as it is conventional and respectful,” mentioned a decree issued by Hibatullah Akhundzada that was released by Taliban authorities at a perform in Kabul.

“These girls who aren't too old or young must cowl their face, except the eyes, as per sharia directives, to be able to avoid provocation when meeting males who are usually not mahram (adult shut male family members),” the decree stated.

It added that if girls had no essential work outside it was “better they stay at residence.”

During their first regime between 1996 and 2001, the Taliban imposed similar restrictions on women.
