Nashville Public Library launches ‘Freedom to Read’ marketing campaign

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — It is a subject that's taken hold in Tennessee: books like "Maus" or "Stroll Two Moons" have been pulled from shelves.

Whereas those books could be banned from some colleges, there is still someplace else you can find them.

"Our job is simply to make sure that if you would like it, it is here for you," said Public Information Officer for the Nashville Public Library, Ed Brown.

"'Maus' is all checked out proper now," mentioned Brown. "So we received extra copies on order but as quickly as word obtained around about what occurred in McMinn County, we obtained plenty of holds."

These are simply some of the two million different materials on the Nashville Public Library.

"Lots of people do not wish to read these books; they don't need their children to need to learn these books, or compelled to read these books, and that's fantastic," said Brown. The purpose is to get the 5,000 library playing cards in the fingers of new sign-ups this month.

"We aren't attempting to be a push again — a power pushing back against these decisions — we wish to be an alternative to say, should you may not have the ability to get it there... you may get it right here," stated Brown.
