Afghanistan’s supreme leader and Taliban chief on Saturday ordered the nation’s women to put on the all-covering burqa in public - one of many harshest controls imposed on women’s lives since the Taliban seized energy.
“They should wear a chadori (head-to-toe burqa) as it is traditional and respectful,” said a decree issued by Hibatullah Akhundzada that was launched by Taliban authorities at a function in Kabul.
“Those girls who are not too outdated or younger must cowl their face, besides the eyes, as per sharia directives, with a view to avoid provocation when meeting men who aren't mahram (adult shut male kinfolk),” the decree said.
It added that if women had no vital work outdoors it was “better they keep at home.”
During their first regime between 1996 and 2001, the Taliban imposed similar restrictions on ladies.
