Apple has discontinued the iPod, 20 years after it was launched.

The US tech large stated its iconic music player has been replaced by different units, making the iPod redundant.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide advertising and marketing, mentioned: "Right this moment, the spirit of iPod lives on.

"We've integrated an unbelievable music expertise throughout all of our merchandise, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and throughout Mac, iPad, and Apple TV.

"And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound high quality with support for spatial audio - there is no higher solution to get pleasure from, discover, and experience music."

In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the original iPod and it was the first MP3 player that might maintain 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.

"With iPod, Apple has invented an entire new category of digital music participant that permits you to put your complete music assortment in your pocket and hearken to it wherever you go," he stated on the time.

"With iPod, listening to music won't ever be the same again."

Comparable MP3 players released by Microsoft and Sony did not have the same success because the iPod.

Apple has released 5 variations of its music participant - the Traditional, Contact, Shuffle, Mini and Nano.

The corporate has been slowly killing its iPod range lately, with cell phone technology enabling customers to listen to music services on their telephones.

In 2014, the traditional click wheel model was discontinued, and the Shuffle and Nano have been killed off three years later.

The seventh-generation iPod touch was the only mannequin still on sale at the moment.

Without the iPod, there would never have been an iPhone or iPod, in line with its inventor Tony Fadell.
