A fifth grade pupil in Florida was arrested over the weekend and charged with sending a text message threatening to carry out a mass taking pictures, authorities stated.

In a press release Saturday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Workplace mentioned it had realized earlier that day of a "threatening text message" despatched by a pupil at an elementary college.

It said its native college risk enforcement team was instantly notified and started investigating. The ten-year-old boy was interviewed and charged later with "making a written menace to conduct a mass shooting," the sheriff's office said.

In video shared by authorities, the boy can be seen being led into a police car.

“This pupil’s habits is sickening, particularly after the recent tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno stated in a press release, noting that the risk got here just days after the deadly school taking pictures at Robb Elementary College left 19 students and two academics useless.

“Proper now is just not the time to behave like slightly delinquent. It’s not humorous,” he said. “This baby made a fake risk, and now he’s experiencing actual penalties.”

Marceno stated his staff “didn’t hesitate one second...NOT ONE SECOND,” to research the incident.

The remark got here as authorities in Uvalde face mounting criticism over their response to the May 24 faculty capturing after it came to mild that they waited roughly an hour for backup as a substitute of immediately transferring in on the gunman.
