In the course of the Uvalde taking pictures, an off-duty federal agent’s wife texted him for help. “I asked my barber if he had a gun,” he said.

Jacob Albarado was in his barber's chair when each males bought text messages in regards to the taking pictures unfolding at Robb Elementary College in Uvalde, Texas, last week. "There's an energetic shooter. Help. Love you," Albarado's spouse Trisha said in three messages at 11:41 a.m.

She's a fourth grade teacher at the faculty, and their daughter is a scholar there.

"I requested my barber if he had a gun," Albarado, a U.S. Customs and Border Safety agent, informed CBS Information on Wednesday. He had attended an awards ceremony on the school earlier that morning and was off obligation, together with his weapon at dwelling.

The barber did have a gun. Albarado took it, a shotgun, they usually rushed to the chaotic scene. Law enforcement officials were already there, and Albarado started serving to.

"Children are coming out the windows," he stated.

With individuals fleeing to a funeral dwelling across the road, Albarado stated he needed to get inside the varsity as fast as he may.

"I was acting as a husband and a father," he stated.

His wife let him know she made it to the funeral home, but she informed him their daughter was locked in a school restroom.

"I did not know what restroom," Albarado stated.

He ultimately discovered his daughter was in a restroom located inside her classroom. Albarado met up with two officers close to the classroom.

"We need to get the children out of here," Albarado stated he informed the officers. "… The shooter's over there. We need to get the kids out. That is our time."

The officers started opening classroom doorways, and Albarado mentioned he guided individuals to security.

"First classroom, second classroom, third classroom, noticed my daughter," Albarado said. "Reduction. Massive aid."

He hugged and kissed her, and soon she was heading to the school parking zone.

While Border Patrol agents had been on the team that breached the classroom where the gunman was holed up, Albarado wasn't in that group.

"I didn't have my gear, and so it wouldn't have been a smart decision for me to get into the building," he stated. "I did not have my vest. A shotgun's not a good enough protection."

During a press conference final week, the head of the Texas Division of Public Security mentioned the college district's police chief didn't initially send officers into the classroom the place the gunman was located as a result of he thought it was now not an active-shooter scenario. The U.S. Justice Department is conducting a review of the police response.

For his part, Albarado stated he wasn't in a position to assess the response.

"I do know my fellow officers," he mentioned, "and … to me, coronary heart of hearts, I believe they were doing every part of their power they could do."
