BERKELEY, Calif. - A 16-year-old boy was arrested after recruiting others to participate in a mass faculty taking pictures that could have included a bombing at Berkeley Excessive School, police say. 

The teenager was arrested Monday, when he turned himself in to police, Berkeley Police Department said in a press release. Monday was Memorial Day and there was no college that day. 

The boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing destructive machine materials and threatening to commit a crime which can lead to dying or nice bodily damage.

Police mentioned they received a tip on Saturday that the boy was recruiting others in plans of a taking pictures that included explosives. Following the tip, police obtained and executed a search warrant for a residence. 

Police didn't say if the teen was a scholar at Berkeley High College.

Upon executing the search warrant, police mentioned they discovered elements to explosives and assault rifles, several knives, and electronic items that might be used to create additional weapons. 

At that point, a warrant was obtained for the teen's arrest.

"Faculty security remains a excessive precedence for the department," police mentioned in a press release. 

Details on whom the teen was making an attempt to recruit were not disclosed. Police said this case remains below investigation. 

Berkeley Unified Supt. Brent Stephens told the school's group that the district was in close contact with police throughout this investigation. 

After police confiscated the teenager's weapon elements, the district relied on police experience to assess any potential ongoing risk to its faculties. The district communicated with police on the scholar's whereabouts. 

"As added precautions during this period, we alerted our administrative and security employees about this investigation and, as is our customary observe, maintained shut contact with our BPD College Useful resource Officer on the Berkeley High Faculty campus," Stephens wrote. "Throughout the investigation period, we have been assured that this particular person did not pose a right away menace to the Berkeley Excessive School neighborhood."

The district is conducting their own investigation on this matter. 

The district could pursue disciplinary motion in opposition to the student.
