Die Seitenbesitzer erkannten flott den Wert einer bevorzugten Listung in Serps und recht bald fand man Organisation, die sich auf die Verfeinerung ausgerichteten. In Anfängen erfolgte die Aufnahme oft bezüglich der Übermittlung der URL der entsprechenden Seite an die vielfältigen Suchmaschinen. Diese sendeten dann einen Webcrawler zur Untersuchung der Seite aus und indexierten sie.[1] Der Webcrawler lud die Webseite auf den Webserver der Recherche, wo ein zweites Software, der allgemein so benannte Indexer, Infos herauslas und katalogisierte (genannte Ansprüche, Links zu sonstigen Seiten). Die neuzeitlichen Versionen der Suchalgorithmen basierten auf Angaben, die aufgrund der Webmaster sogar existieren worden sind, wie Meta-Elemente, oder durch Indexdateien in Suchmaschinen wie ALIWEB. Meta-Elemente geben einen Überblick per Gehalt einer Seite, allerdings stellte sich bald heraus, dass die Verwendung dieser Details nicht gewissenhaft war, da die Wahl der angewendeten Schlagworte dank dem Webmaster eine ungenaue Abbildung des Seiteninhalts widerspiegeln konnte. Ungenaue und unvollständige Daten in Meta-Elementen konnten so irrelevante Seiten bei individuellen Brauchen listen.[2] Auch versuchten Seitenersteller verschiedene Attribute binnen des HTML-Codes einer Seite so zu beherrschen, dass die Seite richtiger in Resultaten gelistet wird.[3] Da die damaligen Suchmaschinen im WWW sehr auf Kriterien angewiesen waren, die allein in Koffern der Webmaster lagen, waren sie auch sehr anfällig für Delikt und Manipulationen in der Positionierung. Um überlegenere und relevantere Testurteile in Ergebnissen zu bekommen, mussten sich die Anbieter der Suchmaschinen im Internet an diese Rahmenbedingungen einstellen. Weil der Erfolg einer Search Engine davon abhängt, wichtige Suchresultate zu den gestellten Suchbegriffen anzuzeigen, konnten ungeeignete Testergebnisse zur Folge haben, dass sich die Nutzer nach ähnlichen Möglichkeiten bei der Suche im Web umblicken. Die Rückmeldung der Internet Suchmaschinen fortbestand in komplexeren Algorithmen für das Rangordnung, die Gesichtspunkte beinhalteten, die von Webmastern nicht oder nur schwierig beherrschbar waren. Larry Page und Sergey Brin entworfenen mit „Backrub“ – dem Vorläufer von Google – eine Recherche, die auf einem mathematischen Algorithmus basierte, der anhand der Verlinkungsstruktur Webseiten gewichtete und dies in den Rankingalgorithmus einfluss besitzen ließ. Auch alternative Suchmaschinen im Netz orientiert pro Folgezeit die Verlinkungsstruktur bspw. fit der Linkpopularität in ihre Algorithmen mit ein. Yahoo search
Is using a server side wildcard redirect good practice? This was done but the old domain urls are still indexed a year later. Rankings for the new domain are still terrible and not the same as before the change of address tool.

My question is that we see the usage of webp images more frequently, also Apple announced that he will support Google’s webp image format. Looking at most of the webshops using webp already the type of the image is webp, but they leave the extension of jpg for example https://google.com/image.jpg but type is webp. What could be the reason for that? Wouldn't it be better if the image would have a .webp extension or no extension at all. Is this related somehow to indexing or SEO? I think they do not want to make the redirect of the images and that’s why they change just the type of the file instead of changing the extension.

We did domain name change some months ago and over 3 months everything was fine in terms of ranking, then suddenly we lost all our ranking. All SEO guru have been indicating it's duplicate content issue because both old and new domain contents are on one server. Can you drop some light on this?

If you migrate your website then check out 301 redirect a few times. Even more, after migration control your redirects because it might break in some time.
